The fluctuation of the operating current of the scrubbing machine, and even
frequent tripping, is a troublesome issue encountered by many quartz sand
production lines. On the surface, it looks like there is a problem with the
motor, but the root cause is mostly due to the fit between the impeller and the
groove.

Quartz sand has high hardness, and after long-term operation of the impeller,
the gap between the lower end face and the bottom of the tank will gradually
increase. When the gap is too large, the impeller cannot effectively drive the
sand material deposited at the bottom to participate in scrubbing, and coarse
particles accumulate more and more at the bottom of the groove, resulting in an
increase in motor load and periodic fluctuations in ammeter readings. It is
recommended to stop the machine and measure the gap once a month, usually within
the range of 5-8mm. If it exceeds the limit, the impeller position should be
adjusted or worn parts should be replaced in a timely manner.
In addition, loose fixing bolts can also cause current fluctuations. The
impeller continues to withstand the impact of quartz sand particles during
high-speed rotation. If the fixing bolts are not tightened according to the
specified torque, they are prone to loosening or even breaking. The impeller
swings and runs in the groove, and the current reading naturally fluctuates.
During each shutdown maintenance, use a torque wrench to check the fixing bolts
one by one, and tighten them immediately if any looseness is found.
Choosing the wrong impeller material can also cause load fluctuations.
Ordinary carbon steel impellers often have a lifespan of less than three months
under quartz sand scrubbing conditions, while polyurethane coated impellers have
good wear resistance and a lifespan typically 2-3 times that of rubber
impellers. The scrubbing concentration also needs to be controlled between 60%
-70%. When the concentration is too high, the slurry resistance is high and the
motor load increases. When the concentration is too low, the scrubbing effect is
compromised.
When abnormal current is found, it is recommended to check the gap first,
then check the bolts, and finally check the lining one by one. Shandong Shanlu
