The filter press is a key equipment for tailings dewatering in quartz sand
wet production lines. The two most common problems are high moisture content in
the filter cake (over 25%) or low filtration efficiency (less than 50m ³/h). It
is recommended to check the three stages in sequence during the
investigation.

Feed pressure and concentration. When the feed pressure is lower than 1.2
MPa, the penetration of the tail slurry is slow, and when it is higher than 1.8
MPa, it is easy to cause damage to the filter cloth and deformation of the
filter plate. It is usually more appropriate to stabilize the pressure at
1.4-1.6 MPa. Low feed concentration can also lead to loose filter cake and high
moisture content.
Hydraulic pressing parameters. If the squeezing pressure is lower than
2.5MPa, the water cannot be squeezed dry, and if it is higher than 3.5MPa, it is
easy to damage the filter plate and hydraulic components; The recommended
pressing time is not less than 30 minutes, and it can be appropriately extended
when the solid content of the tail slurry is high.
Selection and maintenance of filter cloth. Ordinary polyester filter cloth
has low porosity and is easily blocked by fine quartz sand particles. It is
recommended to use polypropylene needle punched felt filter cloth specifically
for quartz sand (porosity 45% -50%, mesh size 250-280), which combines
filtration accuracy and flowability. When the filter cloth is used for more than
80 hours without cleaning, the clogging rate will significantly increase, and it
needs to be cleaned regularly.
