Is the iron removal effect of electromagnetic dry powder magnetic separator poor?

2026-08-24

The electromagnetic dry powder magnetic separator is widely used in the dry purification of quartz sand, but many customers have reported that the iron removal effect decreases and the iron content in the finished product exceeds the standard after a period of operation. The problem usually focuses on three aspects: magnetic field strength, feed uniformity, and equipment temperature.

Insufficient or uneven magnetic field strength is the primary reason for poor iron removal efficiency. Use a Gaussian meter to detect the magnetic field strength in the sorting area. If it is much lower than the rated value of the equipment (such as only 1200 Gauss measured at a rated value of 2000 Gauss), it indicates that the electromagnetic coil may be aging or have a short circuit between turns. After disconnecting the power supply, open the magnetic casing and check for any blackening or burning marks on the coil. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance value, and if the deviation from the standard value in the manual exceeds 10%, replace the coil. Rust on the magnetic yoke can also reduce its magnetic permeability. It can be treated with sandpaper to remove rust and then coated with anti rust paint. If there is a "magnetic field blind spot" in the selection area, it is necessary to contact the manufacturer to adjust the arrangement of magnetic media or install auxiliary magnetic poles.

Uneven feeding also affects sorting efficiency. When the feed is too fast, the material accumulates in the sorting area, and magnetic impurities are discharged with the finished product before they can be adsorbed; If the feeding is too slow, the equipment processing capacity will be insufficient. Suggest checking if the vibrating feeder or belt feeder is operating normally. The moisture content of materials has a particularly significant impact on the dry magnetic separation effect - when the moisture content exceeds 1%, fine powders are prone to agglomerate and adhere to the surface of the magnetic medium, which not only reduces the separation effect but also accelerates the blockage of the magnetic medium. Before feeding, it is necessary to ensure that the material is fully dried, and a fabric spreader should be installed in front of the magnetic separator to control the thickness of the material layer within 5-8mm, ensuring that the material is evenly distributed in the magnetic field zone.

Excessive temperature is another common hazard of electromagnetic dry powder magnetic separators. Long term operation of electromagnetic coils can generate a large amount of heat. When the temperature continues to exceed 60 ℃, it not only affects the stability of the magnetic field, but may also burn out the coil. Check whether the cooling fan and cooling air duct are blocked by dust, and maintain good ventilation around the equipment. It is recommended to install a temperature monitoring device that automatically reduces load or stops cooling when the coil temperature approaches the warning value. If the equipment operates in a high-temperature environment for a long time, it may be considered to install a forced air cooling or water cooling system.
