In the wet production line of quartz sand, if the mesh size of the vibrating
dewatering screen is selected incorrectly, the common consequence is that the
moisture content of the finished product remains high or a large amount of fine
sand is lost. Many customers repeatedly adjust the parameters of the screening
machine to no avail, and the root cause often lies in the initial selection
step.

If the mesh size is too large (such as 100 or more), the water cannot be
completely removed. The sieve holes are too fine, the water discharge channels
are insufficient, the water film on the surface of the sand particles cannot be
effectively broken, and the moisture content of the finished product often
exceeds 15%. Especially when dealing with materials with a high content of -200
mesh fine powder, the fine powder will quickly form a dense layer on the screen
surface, further hindering dehydration. Dehydration of quartz sand usually
recommends a 40-60 mesh polyurethane sieve.
If the mesh size is too small (such as 20 mesh), fine sand will follow the
water. The sieve holes are too large, and a large number of fine particles below
-120 mesh directly enter the wastewater through the sieve, which not only causes
a decrease in yield, but also increases the burden on the back-end thickener and
filter press. The correct approach is to choose the mesh size based on the
actual particle size distribution of the incoming material - if there is a lot
of fine powder in the material, the mesh size should be appropriately enlarged
(60-80 mesh); Coarse particles are predominant, and the mesh size can be
appropriately reduced (30-40 mesh).
Polyurethane mesh is 5-8 times more durable than steel wire mesh. Quartz sand
has a Mohs hardness of 7, and ordinary steel wire mesh often wears through in
just a few days. Although polyurethane mesh has a high unit price, its service
life is 5-8 times that of steel wire mesh. Shanlu Heavy Industry has extensive
experience in the field of quartz sand dewatering and screening, and can provide
recommendations for selecting mesh sizes based on material particle size
distribution and production capacity requirements. For equipment selection
