After running for two or three years, the shaking of the drum becomes more
and more obvious, and there is a dull impact sound at the contact between the
rolling ring and the supporting wheel, which also deteriorates the screening
effect. The problem mostly lies in the wear of the rolling ring. The rolling
ring is a force transmitting component between the cylinder and the supporting
wheel. After wear and tear, the clearance increases, and the cylinder loses
stable support during operation, resulting in increasing shaking.
The wear of the rolling ring exceeds one fourth of its original thickness,
and it cannot be suppressed by shaking. The rolling ring bears the entire weight
of the cylinder and material for a long time, and continuously rubs against the
contact surface of the supporting wheel, gradually reducing its thickness. After
wear, the cross-section of the rolling ring deforms and the roundness decreases,
and the contact surface with the supporting wheel is no longer uniformly
adhered. The cylinder shakes once every revolution. It is recommended to measure
the thickness at multiple points along the circumference of the rolling ring
with a caliper every quarter. If the wear exceeds one fourth of the original
thickness, replacement should be arranged. To replace the rolling ring, a
special tool is needed to slightly lift the cylinder, remove the old rolling
ring, clean the mating surface, heat install the new rolling ring in place, and
check the fit with the cylinder after cooling.
The clearance between the idler and the rolling ring is too large, which also
exacerbates the shaking. The normal gap should be controlled between 0.5-1mm.
When the gap is too large, the cylinder moves on the supporting wheel, and the
shaking amplitude increases exponentially. Adjust the positioning bolts of the
supporting wheel bracket to adjust the gap within the standard range. The four
supporting wheels need to be adjusted synchronously to ensure even force
distribution. After adjustment, use a spirit level to retest the axis of the
cylinder, and control the deviation within 1mm.
Loose fastening bolts of the rolling ring are also a cause of shaking. The
rolling ring is usually made up of two halves spliced together and fastened to
the cylinder with bolts. After the bolt loosens, there is relative sliding
between the rolling ring and the cylinder, and shaking occurs accordingly. Check
the fastening bolts once a month and tighten them evenly in diagonal order. If
the bolt hole is found to be deformed or loose, it is necessary to re drill the
hole and increase the size of the bolt.
During daily inspections, pay attention to observing whether the cylinder is
running smoothly. If the shaking intensifies, follow the order of "first measure
the thickness of the rolling ring, then adjust the clearance between the
supporting wheels, and finally check the fastening bolts" for troubleshooting.
