The three return drum dryer is the core equipment in the drying process of
the quartz sand production line, and the moisture content of the finished
product is usually controlled below 0.5%. Uneven drying (moisture content
fluctuation exceeding 0.3%) and high energy consumption are the two most common
problems.

Uneven drying, hot air distribution, and feed stability are key factors. When
the hot air is unevenly distributed along the axial direction of the cylinder,
some materials are fully heated while others do not receive enough heat. Suggest
optimizing the layout of hot air ducts and installing diversion devices to
ensure even coverage of hot air. Fluctuations in the amount of feed can also
lead to uneven drying - when the feed is overloaded instantly, a large amount of
wet sand rushes in, and the hot air cannot take away the moisture in time.
Equipped with a variable frequency feeding system, stabilizing the feeding rate
at 85% -95% of the equipment's rated value can effectively improve the
situation. The rotational speed of the cylinder also needs to be precisely
adjusted to 3-5 r/min according to the moisture content of the feed, to meet the
drying requirements of materials with different humidity levels.
High energy consumption and decreased sealing performance are the main
reasons. The aging of the seal causes hot air leakage, and the heat is wasted.
Suggest replacing aging seals and adopting a labyrinth seal structure to reduce
hot air leakage. Insufficient fuel combustion is also a common reason for high
energy consumption - when the carbon deposition thickness of the gas burner
nozzle exceeds 2mm, the heat output can decrease by more than 30%. Regularly
clean the carbon deposits on the nozzle, equip it with an efficient burner, and
adjust the air supply in real time. The sticking of the cylinder also affects
the thermal efficiency - when the feed humidity is too high (over 5%), the wet
material is prone to agglomerate on the cylinder wall. It is recommended to
control the moisture content below 5% before feeding and install a detachable
wear-resistant scraper plate on the inner wall of the cylinder.
Whether the dryer runs well depends on the uneven distribution of hot air and
whether the seal is tight or not. These two optimizations are in place, and
energy consumption and moisture content can be effectively controlled.
