The vertical high gradient magnetic separator is indispensable in the deep
iron removal of quartz sand, but customers occasionally encounter situations
where the processing capacity suddenly decreases significantly - with the same
feed concentration and valve opening, the discharge volume is reduced by nearly
half. Many people's first reaction is that the slurry is too viscous or the
voltage is unstable, and after a lot of tinkering, they realize that the problem
lies in the magnetic medium box.

The blockage of the media box is the "number one culprit" for the sudden drop
in processing capacity. The media box is composed of multiple layers of magnetic
steel plate mesh, used to capture fine-grained weak magnetic iron titanium
minerals. As the running time increases, the adsorbed magnetic substances
accumulate thicker in the gaps between the media, and the flushing water fails
to flush them out in time, gradually blocking the flow channel. When the
processing capacity first decreases, there are usually no other abnormalities.
By the time the current is significantly increased or the rotor is stuck, the
blockage is often quite severe. The solution is to remove the medium box after
stopping the machine, and then rinse it repeatedly with a high-pressure water
gun (0.6-0.8MPa). Stubborn blockages can be dissolved by short-term soaking in
5% dilute hydrochloric acid. At the same time, check whether the flushing nozzle
is blocked, ensure that the flushing water pressure is not lower than 0.3MPa,
and the pulsation mechanism is working properly.
Deformation or misalignment of the media box is also a common cause. Frequent
disassembly or accidental collision may cause deformation of the media box frame
and misalignment of the magnetic mesh plate. Uneven gaps between misaligned
media boxes can narrow local flow channels, resulting in a natural decrease in
processing capacity. Every time the media box is reinstalled, the positioning
pin should be checked for accurate alignment and the frame should be checked for
flatness. When deformation occurs, it is necessary to level or replace the media
box with a new one.
Abnormal operation of the rotating ring can also lead to a decrease in
processing capacity. When the rotating ring bearing is damaged or the gearbox is
short of oil, the rotating ring speed slows down or even stalls, and the slurry
flow in the sorting area is not smooth, resulting in a decrease in processing
capacity. It is recommended to check the oil level and quality of the gearbox
once a month, and replace the lubricating oil every six months. Before starting
the device, jog the swivel ring to confirm that it rotates smoothly without any
abnormal noise before officially starting up.
Develop the habit of recording processing capacity, current, and flushing
water pressure during daily inspections. Don't rush to adjust the front-end when
the processing capacity suddenly drops. First, check if the media box is blocked
and if the rotating ring is running smoothly. For equipment operation related
