The obstructed settling machine is used for desliming and purification in wet
grading of quartz sand, but the frequent occurrence of coarse particles (running
coarse) in overflow is a problem encountered by many customers. The overflow of
coarse sand not only results in a loss of production, but also increases the
burden on backend equipment.

The rising water flow is too fast, and coarse particles are washed away
before they can settle. The obstructed settling machine relies on the rising
water flow to achieve particle size separation, and when the flow rate is too
fast, coarse particles are also carried into the overflow. Excessive opening of
the inlet valve or unstable water pressure can lead to excessive flow rate. A
measuring cup can be used to take samples from the overflow port. If the content
of -200 mesh is low and there are significantly more coarse particles in the
overflow, the inlet valve should be turned down by one gear, observed for half
an hour, and then sampled for testing to gradually find the optimal opening.
Fluctuations in feed concentration can also lead to coarsening. When the
concentration of incoming materials fluctuates in the front-end, the water flow
parameters of the settling machine cannot be synchronously adjusted in time.
When the concentration suddenly increases, a large amount of material rushes in,
and some coarse particles do not have time to settle before entering the
overflow with the rising water flow. Suggest adding a buffer tank in front of
the settling machine to stabilize the feed concentration. Sample and test the
feed concentration once per shift, and promptly investigate the front-end
dewatering screen or cyclone if fluctuations exceed 5% are found.
If it is found during daily inspections that the overflow color has darkened
and the bottom discharge volume has decreased, it is likely that it has become
rough and should be sampled and tested immediately. At least once per shift,
check the overflow concentration and the content of -200 mesh in the overflow,
and adjust the frequency of water flow and bottom flow discharge in a timely
manner during the initial run.
