The sound of the permanent magnet drum magnetic separator is stable during
normal operation. Once periodic impact or friction sounds occur, it is mostly
due to internal problems. If abnormal noise is detected and the machine
continues to operate without stopping, the magnetic block may further detach and
jam the drum, or even damage the entire magnetic system.

Loose or detached magnetic blocks are the most common source of abnormal
noise. The magnetic block is fixed on the magnetic yoke by adhesive or
mechanical compression. After long-term exposure to quartz sand impact and
temperature changes, the adhesive ages and fails, and looseness occurs between
the magnetic block and the magnetic yoke. Loose magnetic blocks collide with
adjacent magnetic blocks or shells during the rotation of the drum, producing
periodic "clicking" sounds. Once abnormal noise occurs, the machine should be
stopped immediately and the end cover should be removed to check the magnetic
system status. If the magnetic block has fallen off, it can be temporarily fixed
with non-magnetic materials such as thin copper sheets to prevent further
damage. The long-term solution is to replace the magnetic system with mechanical
compression and adhesive double fixation, as relying solely on adhesive has
lower reliability.
Severe wear of bearings can also lead to abnormal noise. After bearing oil
shortage or long-term overload operation, the ball bearings wear and the cage
deforms, producing sharp friction or dull impact sounds during operation. If the
temperature of the bearing housing is significantly higher than the normal value
(normal ≤ 65 ℃) or accompanied by obvious vibration when touched by hand, it
indicates that the bearing is damaged and needs to be stopped and replaced
immediately. Recharge lithium based grease every 500 working hours and replace
it thoroughly every six months, which can effectively extend the bearing
life.
Deformation of the drum shell or entry of foreign objects inside may also
cause abnormal noise. The shell is deformed by external force and interferes
with the magnetic system, resulting in continuous friction during operation.
Check the surface of the shell for obvious dents or scratches, and replace the
shell if it is severely deformed. After installing the new casing, calibrate it
with a level to ensure that the drum is parallel to the chute.
Abnormal noise is a "distress signal" emitted by the magnetic separator. If
it is detected and continues to operate without stopping the machine, minor
