The surface sticking of the magnetic roller is a common problem in the dry
iron removal of quartz sand using a permanent magnet dry roller magnetic
separator. When the moisture content of the material is too high or there is too
much fine powder, the fine powder will gradually adhere to the surface of the
magnetic roller, forming a layer of material shell, shielding the magnetic field
lines, and significantly reducing the iron removal effect.

The main cause of sticking is when the moisture content of the material
exceeds 1%. Dry magnetic separation requires the feed to be dry, and fine powder
is prone to adhere to the magnetic roller when the moisture exceeds the
standard. The solution is to ensure sufficient drying or natural air drying
before feeding, and control the moisture content below 1%. If there is no drying
equipment at the front end, a hot air duct can be installed in front of the
magnetic separator to remove the surface moisture of the material with hot
air.
The increase in surface roughness of the magnetic roller will also exacerbate
the sticking of the material. After long-term operation, the stainless steel
layer on the surface of the magnetic roller wears away, resulting in small
scratches, and fine powder is more easily embedded and adhered. It is
recommended to lightly sand the surface of the magnetic roller along the
circumference with fine sandpaper every month to remove burrs and scratches and
maintain a smooth surface. Clean up after polishing before turning on the
machine.
Wear or displacement of the iron scraper can also cause sticking of the
material. The function of the iron unloading scraper is to remove the iron
powder adsorbed on the surface of the magnetic roller. When the scraper is worn
or has a large gap with the magnetic roller, the iron powder and material
residue accumulate thicker on the roller surface. Check the fit between the
scraper and the magnetic roller, and keep the gap between 0.5-1mm. If there is
severe wear, replace it in a timely manner.
During daily inspections, observe the surface of the magnetic roller once per
shift. If adhesive is found, stop the machine and clean it in a timely manner.
Do not wait until the magnetic force is completely shielded before handling it.
